A world premiere from Joseph Cabon opens this richly English first half, framed by Howells at his most rhapsodic and elegiac. Peter Cigleris, a clarinettist with a growing reputation for his work uncovering British rarities, joins our Artistic Director Simon Callaghan for the soaring Clarinet Sonata, before the Piatti Quartet turn to Tchaikovsky's youthful, melody-laden First Quartet to close a concert that pairs discovery with deep romantic warmth.
The event begins with a pre-concert talk with Dr Jonathan Clinch, organist and lecturer at Royal Academy of Music, who specialises in British music over the last two centuries.
