The novelist E.M. Forster's famous maxim was 'only connect.' A member of the 'Bloomsbury set' who lived in Brunswick Square for years, Morgan Forster acted out this maxim in his life.

A lifelong believer in gay rights and critic of restrictions based on race and class, he famously had a 30-year friendship with working-class policeman Bob Buckingham. But the connection did not end there. Forster had a wider influence on the whole Buckingham family, including Bob's nephew Jim Buckingham who was inspired to follow privately his passion for painting.

Now in his 80s, Jim Buckingham has a collection of never-before-seen Forster memorabilia, letters, photographs and his own unseen life's work of paintings including portraits of Forster himself, Bob Buckingham and other family members, and a series around the theme of ancestry.

The exhibition offers new insights into E.M. Forster's legacy of connection, as well as into Bloomsbury working class history.

The boy lives in Ilford, of course he's depressed

Mixed-race teenager Ted Martin is growing up in 90s East London in a house full of chaos, laughter and tough love.

One day Patrick arrives, shaking the foundations of Ted's life with his sense of style, humour and love of show tunes. Another way to live explodes into view. One filled with art, possibility and people who see him clearly for the first time.

Directed by Donmar Artistic Director Tim Sheader, Danny Lee Wynter's Ilford Boy is a funny, moving drama about the ghosts that follow us, the families we choose, and the Streisand that helps us survive.

Opposite the famous Great Ormond Street Hospital, an archway bears a timeworn sign: "G Bailey & Sons, Horse & Motor Contractors". Beyond it, the horses and cabs are long gone, replaced by a gritty patchwork of old brick, street art, and concrete flats. But this unassuming space was once the bustling, crowded Ormond Yard - a powerhouse of local industry and home to a diverse community who helped put Bloomsbury on the map.

This vibrant show by The Good Companions blends storytelling with live vintage songs and archive images, revealing the untold story of how a humble yard behind Great Ormond Street helped to shape modern Bloomsbury. Staged in the handsome Music Room at 49 Great Ormond Street, the performances also offer audiences a rare opportunity to view this historic house's first-floor parlour.

"Perky and pristine in the Haydn, gutsy and attitudinal in the folk-inspired Prokofiev, movingly sustained in the grim delights of the Shostakovich... richly considered, rigorously balanced and, ultimately, a musical treat." (The Scotsman)

Haydn's wit, Rebecca Clarke's haunting Poem and Puccini's elegiac Crisantemi make a beguiling first half, before Scotland's longest-established quartet tackles Schubert's epic G major Quartet - fifty minutes of restless, visionary genius. A programme that balances miniature gems with one of the chamber repertoire's true summits.

PROGRAMME:
6.30pm: Edinburgh Quartet

Haydn | Quartet in F Op.77/2
Rebecca Clarke | Poem
Puccini | Crisantemi
Schubert | Quartet in G D887
